Population of all wild life species have been steadily increasing in Kaziranga(please see Population Estimation). Tiger population density in Kaziranga National Park has been one of the highest in India (So in the World) as supported by several scientific studies- Karanth (1995), and a recent(2008-09) study undertaken by the Kaziranga Tiger Reserve Management in collaboration with Aaranyak, a premier local environment and wildlife NGO.
This is attributed to strong protection measures taken by the management , which has helped in increased population of herbivores serving as strong and adequate prey base. As tiger population in India as well as in the World has decreased in a alarming rate compelled the Government to take necessary measures. Declaration of Kaziranga National Park along with some contiguous area is result of this concern.
